The twins in the eyes of the government.

So, when the twins were born, like most parents, we went on line and registered them. We got their birth certificates, health cards, SIN numbers (very important for taxes and setting up their RESPs, which I advise all parents to do.) We also registered them for benefits.
Last week I received a letter saying they had made an assessment and.I was eligible for benefits for June and Sawyer. Hold on. What about Sansa? She was not mentioned at all, which I would have expected even to say she didn’t qualify. I didn’t think there was a two child limit? Very odd.
So I decided to call and after several tries I finally got through. It turns out that although we registered the twins minutes apart on January 8, June was processed on January 20 and Sansa was not.processed until  FIVE days later! Since January 20th is the cut off for claims she didn’t qualify! I am not sure how the government works and how that could have happened.
The good news is that she will qualify when they reassess in March and I should receive a credit. A happy ending but something to be aware of for anyone applying for benefits with multiples.
