I woke up this morning with a really sore throat (well technically I was up several times last night with the girls and/or my sore throat). Great, I thought, its gonna be a lousy day. Jeff had plans to see a movie with my brother (a much deserved outing) and I was going to.hang at home with the munchkins
Then it got much worse. My dog Jessie ran out the front door when Jeff was taking them out to pee. Jessie is a rescue and has run away before. I could go on forever about how far she has run, or what I went through to get her back. Luckily most of this was before we had kids. As I yelled her name from the porch I felt helpless. What could I do? I couldn’t just leave the kids to go after her. Jeff hopped in the car and drove around, but to no avail.
All we could do was wait and hope someone found her. She is microchipped and has my cell number on her tags. I felt terrible, but I didn’t want to take it out on Jeff or the kids. It was an accident after all.
Then after about an hour and a half I heard scratching and whining at the front door. She came back!!! She has never done that before. I opened the door and greated her hoping she would come in, but she wanted to play. She took off down the street again, and again I watched helplessly. I feel like crap and its zero degrees outside. Jeff took off after her. She apparently got into a fight with another dog and at some point injured her paw. He managed to catch her in the parking lot of the plaza down the street and carry her home. Oh my Jessie.
She has a flesh wound on her paw and she seems to be in pain, but she is home. And in time for Jeff to go to his movie. This has really reminded me to keep myself in check, after all, compared to her being missing my sore throat and headache were insignificant.
