The Thursday Review: the new Bounce Dryer Bar

Recently one of my fellow mommy bloggers posted about ways to save money. One of the things I read more than once were cutting dryer sheets in half. Cutting dryer sheets in half I pondered. I had never thought of that. But then again, I never thought much about dryer sheets at all!

Growing up we did not have a dryer and my mom dried all our clothes on clothes lines. My first experience with dryers was when I was in graduate school and I got my own apartment.

Towels don’t have to feel like sandpaper! Who knew?

Anyways, shrank most of my clothes, but they felt soft and no ironing required. Never used a dryer sheet.

The townhouse has its own washer dryer. I never used dryer sheets until my mom bought me some because they were on sale (she is thoughtful like that). Far as I can tell they help with smell and static cling. I was putting in two or three sheets.

Now, back to the beginning (I know, get to the review already). My mom bought me a Bounce dryer bar. It is a bar that sticks inside the dryer and lasts for up to three months. No sheets required.

The Pros:

-no loose sheets floating in your clean laundry (somehow they end up everywhere)

-it is cheaper than sheets. I got a refill on sale for $4. That’s $1.33 a month. Pretty cheap if you ask me.

-you don’t have to remember to put the sheets in (hubs always forgets)

The Cons:

-it smells like Bounce! LOL I happen to not really like the smell. (Love the smell of Gain by the way).

-dryer sheets do have other uses like keeping shoes fresh etc.

-how will I remember when it gets to three months? Sometimes those things you can “forget about” get forgotten about for too long.

Overall: I give it 3.5 out of 5. I like it, but I don’t love it. I would not necessarily recommend it to a friend, but I would tell them to give it a shot and see what they think.

  1. hmmm, half the time I forget to put in the dryer sheet…maybe I need to try these.

  2. I can’t take the scent of dryer sheets or bars because they, unfortunately, give me an instant headache! If the bar was completely unscented I’d be willing to try it because it’d be nice to not have to put in a sheet. šŸ™‚
We use Bounce Free sheets and there really is NO scent, thankfully! Funny, after posting about becoming frugal, I actually took others’ advice about hanging clothes outside (or inside!) instead of using the dryer, and now I only dry towels and sheets in the dryer, so two loads a week instead of eight/nine? Saving about $45 a month!
