The Thursday Review: International Delights Iced Coffees

image

Ironically, I don’t like coffee. I never have, and I have never tried to like it since I figured this is one more bad habit I don’t need.

Then I discovered iced coffee and my opinion changed.

Since I have been either trying to conceive or pregnant since 2009, I have stayed away from caffeine. So, imagine the bliss from a nice creamy iced coffee. I always get mine from Tims (second fav. Mc Donalds). However, sometimes I can’t get out to get it and then I discovered International Delights Iced Coffee and thought “hey, now there’s an idea”.

I did some research online and found out it has been in the states for some time, but it is new in Canada. I have now tried all three flavours and I will give it a thumbs up.

Pros

-there is not too much caffeine in it, but definitely enough for a good kick.

-there are three flavours to choose from. I comment on the specific flavours below.

-it lasts for a decent amount of time in the fridge

-it is very rich and creamy. So much so that you almost need the ice to water it down (but that’s better than watery iced coffee).

-it’s available at most major grocery stores.

Cons

-it is dirty. (“Dirty” is the word we use in this house to describe junk food). It had 160 calories per serving which is pretty steep. I usually drink low cal drinks, (even my medium from Tims only has 100 calories) so I tend to dilute it a bit for my conscience πŸ˜‰

-it is a little pricey. Most places charge $4.99 for it. I suppose that is still cheaper than buying fast food iced coffee though.

-it doesn’t really taste so much like coffee (read: if you like black or unsweetened coffee you will hate it). It is to iced coffee what Tim Hortons French Vanilla Cappuccino is to their coffee.

Flavours

Caramel Macchiato: my favourite. Tastes the most like coffee, but still sweet and creamy. A good balance of flavours.

Mocha: my second favourite. This one almost tastes too good. I rather found it like drinking chocolate milk.

French Vanilla: this one I did not like. I felt exactly like I was drinking a cold French Vanilla from Tim’s and there is something off putting about that. Plus, I just don’t like the vanilla flavour in it. I had to give it to hubs.

Overall

If you like iced coffee give it a try. I would recommend it, but be sure not to drink too much! Caffeine is a dangerous drug. I hope if it does well they will bring the reduced calorie version to Canada and that would be a happy day.

  1. Ive become a fan of coffee since having Vinnie. It seems to be a daily habit now. Mid afternoon coffee while he naps. I like it milky and sweet.

    • It’s sooo good and great in the warm weather. It’s not as strong and sweeter than regular coffee. I am definitely addicted since being on mat leave. It’s my daily treat…except sometimes it’s more than one a day!

  2. I like it. A friend served it at a party and I believe it is made with real milk product instead of that funny oil in most creamers, so that’s a plus πŸ™‚

  3. I’m not the world’s biggest fan of vanilla flavours either I have to say. We don’t have this brand here but we do have flavoured iced coffee drinks. I just stay well away from them although I do enjoy regular unsweetened (and decaf) coffee.
