Yes! You Can Do It.

I have said this before, but one of the things I love most about being a parent is that it shows you all the things you can do that you never thought possible (usually out of necessity).

My friends always talk about how they get older but they don’t feel like an “adult”. That’s true. I felt the same way I did at 20 as I did at 28. What I realized is that its not getting older that makes you feel like a grown up, it’s having kids of your own. The responsibility of caring for this special child you created yourself is very real, and you become driven by a powerful force.

I realized you can use that force to your advantage. It may not be today or tomorrow, but at some point you will stop and realize you now have confidence in yourself as a mom and parent.

When I was going through some.struggles of my own I read on a fellow mama’s post “Life is not about weathering the storm, its about learning to dance in the rain”.  It hit me like a thunderbolt.  In racing to try to find the solution to my problems I wasn’t living my life anymore.  And I may never find the answers I sought.  If I was going to survive I had to appreciate life, raw and as it was.  And I have ever since.

So I thought I would list some of the things I have accomplished for you today. I am not bragging by any means, as none of these are Guinness World Record worthy. They are just some examples of how I conquered some challenges, and if I can you can too.

-toilet training my son
-teaching a successful WHMIS class with Sawyer in my arms
-breastfeeding all of my kids
-still managing to take care of my animals after having kids
-getting out of debt and actually having savings
-taking all three kids on a road trip
-getting a root canal done on my lunch break
-changing my car battery myself (with help)
-working full time through both pregnancies
-finding time to write my blog
-losing the baby weight

Now that you’ve read some of mine let’s inspire others. What are some of your personal successes?

Remember that in life things may not always go as planned but you cannot fail. So what’s holding you back? The greatest barriers we face exist only in our minds.

  1. I love your posts. They are always encouraging and positive and sometimes are just what I need to read.

As for my personal successes, I would count:
    – Surpassing my 6 month breastfeeding goal
    – Still blogging after 8 months
    – Not being a total a** despite running on a measly 6h of interrupted sleep for the part 8 months
    – Finding time to spend some quality alone time with my partner

  2. I love this post! It really puts everything in the right perspective. My accomplishments? Breastfeeding both kids, working full-time, starting a blog, surviving on an average of 5hours sleep. At the moment this is what my fuzzy brain can come up with. 🙂
