Blogging Articles for Bloggers, Mommy Musings: Thoughts and Opinions

Hello? Readers, Are You Out There?

imageSo apparently if you take a short break from blogging and take your website offline you not only loose most of your readers, Google forgets about you as well.

I had been diligently blogging since the girls were born. True, I started my blog expecting it would be more of a record for me AMD that would never really have any readers. However, I also started it because of the comfort I found in reading other people’s blogs when I was pregnant with the twins and I didn’t know what to expect, so I was hoping to return the favour.

imageLittle by little my blog grew. I posted every day and even won a few awards. Then my blog got a Facebook page, a Twitter account, and even its own email. I was following other blogs, reading and learning, really enjoying my experience.

Whether enjoyable or not when you are mom you do have to make sacrifices. So when restarted working again, and we were in the process if moving, I had to take a break. There was just no time to even think about blogging.

Now that things have settled down I am back again, and I am FRUSTRATED!

Before the break I used to get on average 100 hits on a day I didn’t post and 200-400 on a day I did. Now, I get 10! It seems even my followers don’t read my posts and Google is mad at me for going off line. I guess because all links to my site became broken Google started to ignore me? I don’t really know why but it sucks!

I really do appreciate some of the great followers I do have like Our Magical Chaos, Journey2dfuture, Mommy Flying Solo and Mummyshymz. To you lovely ladies, thank you and be sure to check out their blogs.

So now you know. If you take your site down or take a break you may have to start all the way back at the beginning again.  It makes me sad, but I don’t regret my decision. I would have been nice to know what I was in for though.

imageI am hoping, with fingers crossed, that in a few months things will be back to normal, and I will have some new readers to play the Game of Diapers with me.

I can say that since I was last blogging there are tons of new people to meet and new blogs to follow, which I did not expect either, and I am really enjoying it.

Happy Blogging!

About Shannon

I am a university educated full-time working mother of three children and expecting #4. Proudly Canadian, I freeze my butt off along with my loving partner, two dogs and a cat. I hope you enjoy reading my posts as much as I love writing them, but if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all.

  1. It’s definitely not easy to juggle with everything. I know I’ve been struggling with blogging since going back to work as well. I understand the frustration. I think we all start blogging as a way to just keep a personal journal, not expecting that people will actually be interested in what we are writing and then, when we start getting feedback, our expectations with regards to our blog change. Hope your blog picks up soon 😉

  3. Yep. I learned that through my other blog; The Daily Awe. It’s tough to keep it up, but if you want to make any money or make a blog name for yourself, you gotta keep it up!

  4. I’m in the same boat! Being pregnant, working full time and commuting an hour away have made me not post very much.. but the posts will be there whenever you and I have time to write more. Nice to see you! I hope the job is working out well.

  5. Feel your pain – whilst on maternity leave, I was writing web content and guest blog posts for a client daily and loving it! Trying to fit family life, full time work AND writing was too much and sadly I lost my client.

I’ve been back at work almost a year now and am just starting to feel like I’m managing my time effectively, without sacrificing anything!

Always happy to offer up a guest post from Free Range Boy too – just shout 😉

    • Thanks for sharing your experience.
It took me a month to get back into the groove last time (I was also starting a new position at my job so it was crazy on both ends). This time I am not sure how it will be with three.
I mean I get home by 5:30 feed twins, get everyone dressed and walk the dogs, come home feed Sawyer, do the dishes and cleaning, hubs comes home, put kids to bed, shower and get ready for the next day and then bed. Doesn’t leave even a minute to spare to relax or even eat myself! I am sure I’ll figure it out.
I’d love to have you do a guest post, I haven’t had one in a while. Just email gameofdiapers@outlook.com cheers!

  6. Is it sad that I’m encouraged by knowing you had to take a break when moving, too? Ha! I thought, “If Shannon who posts every day and always makes time to blog couldn’t keep up with it while moving, then it’s ok that I’m behind while selling our house!” Now let’s see what happens when we actually move…maybe I can write some posts ahead of time to publish during the chaos of moving with toddlers. 🙂
