Having Fun At The Walk and Wag For Warmth

walk and wag for warmth posterThis weekend the Toronto Humane Society partnered with Buytopia.ca and the Purina PawsWay Centre to hold the first Walk and Wag For Warmth Event.

Families could get a pass for only $19 which was good for four hours of fun for them and their four-legged family members.  The weather outside was festive.  It was minus twenty degrees with the wind chill and mother nature dumped 20-30 cm of snow on us, but that wasn’t enough to keep people away, and it certainly wasn’t enough to stop them from having a good time.

For $19 this is one of the best afternoons for a family you could buy.  There was Pockets the clown doing face painting, Pizzazz Trick Team performing tricks and also teaching people how to teach their dogs tricks, a certified dog trainer and veterinarian on hand to answer questions, and my two favourites, dog paw print ornament making and holiday makeover grooming (all wwfw2included in the price of admission).

It was so heartwarming to see families showing their love for their dogs, and many dogs came dressed up for the occasion.  Although they did have to cancel the “walk” part of it due to the weather conditions, there was plenty to do inside.  And since Santa drives a sleigh, he was there to share his Christmas spirit and get pictures taken with the dogs.

Food was also included so there was all you can drink coffee and tea from William’s Coffee Pub (they even had my decaf tea!) as well as drinks, sandwiches from Sobeys and pizza from Pizzaiolo (my favourite) for lunch.  They were even showing the movie Santa Paws 2 for the kids to watch while everyone took a break to eat.

The event was capped off by a raffle with some amazing prizes including $2000 worth of laser hair removal and a years of Purina Pro Plan Dog Food.  Many people won something, and those who didn’t still got to go home with an amazing goody bag and box filled with everything from T-shirts to dog treats.

If you are a dog owner in Toronto keep your eye out next year for this one, it was so much fun and such a great value.  Plus, the best part is all the funds raised go to the Toronto Humane Society to help animals in need.  What more could you ask for?
