It felt oddly appropriate since Canada beat Sweden for the gold medal in Olympic hockey that we would go off to IKEA to buy Sawyer a new bed. His old crib turned into a bed and that’s what he had been using, but being in the 95 percentile for height and weight for a three-year old meant that he had outgrown it. Daddy had gotten a bonus at work and IKEA was having a sale on bedroom furniture so it seemed the stars were telling us this was the time to go.
We had originally planned to go during the week, but the bed he wanted was constantly sold out, so when they finally got a few in stock I got up at 5:20am so I could get to work in time to leave early and we rushed up. Since it was a busy Sunday, Daddy stayed at home with the girls while we went shopping.
It was a crazy but fun occasion. IKEA never disappoints for the kids either. Everything is kid friendly from the second set of lower railings to the child sized sinks in the washrooms to the 99 cent frozen yoghurt.
Since we couldn’t fit it in our little cruiser the bed is being delivered this morning and I can’t wait to get it together.
It was a bit of a harrowing experience for me since it seemed like 50% of the store was (obviously) pregnant. But I refused to let it sour the moment and actually treated myself to a frozen yoghurt as well. As I sat there licking the cone I have always wanted for so many years but refused to let myself indulge it tasted like heaven.
Our secret didn’t last for long because when we got home daddy had already checked his bank account and saw the separate $2 charge on his card and knew we had gotten a treat, but it was worth it 😉
