Some of us are born great and others have greatness thrust upon them. At least that’s what I told myself when out of the blue my 24 month old twin girls decided they wanted to start potty training!
My potty trained my son around 2.5 years old using the Three Day Method and it worked really well. I have not really thought about it much with the girls as they just turned two in January. But yesterday Sansa decided it was time and she took off her diaper and ran to the toilet every time she had to poop. And being the most wonderful big brother that he is Sawyer got right in there and got a seat and helped her on the toilet. As he helped her and cheered her on as she tried to use the toilet I could feel my heart melting inside, this was why I have three kids.
Of course then June ran up and seeing her sister she wanted to use the toilet as well. Since there is only one on the main floor I ran to get the potties so there would be one for each. And so there we were at 7:00pm on a Tuesday night. My two girls pants-less and trying to use their potties and Sawyer helping both of them with their clothes and cheering them on. He even ran and got them toilet paper!
In the end they didn’t really do much in them but now that the worms are out of the can I don’t think they are going back in. I have always heard training girls is easier but every kid is different. With Sawyer we had a few failed attempts and so I really did not know what to expect. Here’s to hoping that they continue to take initiative and use the potties, and with Sawyer’s help I might just be able to manage training two at once. Gonna have to go get some pull ups though since it’s a big waste of diapers when they keep pulling them off and they don’t want to put them back on. As you can imagine with twins we go through enough as it is (yet still I don’t have enough Pampers points for the plasma scooter after three kids and three years’ worth of points sheesh!).
To reward Sawyer I added a category to his responsibility chart (it comes with two blanks). I wrote “helping the girls” and drew two girl smiley faces. He was so thrilled and I put the award beside the category praising him for his hard work. I’ll let you know how it goes in a couple of weeks, but it scares me to think that the Game of Diapers may be coming to an end…
